I finally got to do my medical tests this week, which is an achievement after many months of negotiating from Singapore and weeks of waiting here. It was a complicated process. Firstly, because I don't have an OHIP number (health insurance for Ontario residents), I couldn't receive attention at the public hospital, where a Lupus clinic is located. So I went to hunt down family clinics (which in Ontario are in very short supply). Decided to go to Appletree Medical Group because I saw that it had many clinics, which to me was a proxy that it should be more than averagely reliable. I had to consult a doctor to get a requisition, which is a form to say I'm allowed to do clinical tests.
Then I had to go and pick a medical lab to do the tests. The one I chose turned out to be in the basement of a building (sounds so dubious right, esp. when you think of all the weird basement science experiments that you read in books/watch in shows). Thankfully it was quick and done in half an hour, but I found out later that they forgot to do the urine samples, so I will have to go back on Tuesday :-p I guess I should have asked them before I left, but after drawing 6 tubes of blood, I was kinda spaced out. Almost 'langga' with a pigeon on the way out
This weekend is a busy busy one - excitedly preparing to meet with T & C who are visiting from Hamilton. I started packing stuff into a big box to ship back as well - there's so much course material and other interesting books that I've accumulated in just 7 weeks! I'm so excited about the Thanksgiving holiday that I gave myself a huge dimsum treat in Chinatown yesterday. It was fun - getting some of the smells and tastes of Hong Kong, another one of my bestest places in the world to go :-)
