Managing by Discovery

Been consumed the past 3 days by a workshop. Specifically, running a game that my colleague and I have been working on for the last 7 months, alongside an external expert. I've learnt a lot from that experience - not just about the design of games, but also about managing goals as they morph.

I think these lessons will come in useful for my time in Canada. For one, I'm hoping to observe how our Canadian friends design and run learning games in their classes. Have the impression that the Canadians are fairly well-skilled and experienced in this area. I'm looking forward to observing them in thought and action.

Secondly, the reminder to allow original goals to change as I discover more about my environment is a good one to hold. Subtle but important changes to my posture of inquiry - will I be asking only questions that help me answer what I set out in the beginning to find, or will I be asking questions that can enable me to make discoveries and seize opportunities as they come?
