What a Week!

What a week! First the storm on Tuesday, then the Armchair session on Thursday, followed by Halloween on Friday, then my church's Yuletide Fair on Saturday... and now, I realise I'd better start looking at the details of the Quebec trip I've planned to take later this month!

Thank God the Armchair ran smoothly, despite the hiccups, delays and uncertainties. I'm glad people enjoyed themselves, and left with a desire to experience Singapore. With respect to making people curious and that little bit more appreciative of Singapore, I think I succeeded. I should have managed my time better and have time for questions... or asked for a longer session! Haha. Well, if I ever have to do a Singapore presentation again, I'll know better :-) I never thought I'd say this, but "Uniquely Singapore" is quite true I've come to realise. When I was preparing the presentation, I pondered about what makes us us, and how I could explain that to my audience. I just couldn't for some bits - it's something they will have to experience for themselves.

I pushed myself out of my comfort zone for this presentation as well - I tried to stay away from using bullet points as much as possible. Instead, I tried to rely on pictures, sounds, textures, tastes and feelings to bring the information across. Looking for the pictures was great fun - but very very time consuming and tiring!!! :-( But that's all over now - whee!!!! [Next one - the LD discussion with people in the School. Should be an easier one to prepare, but a more taxing and consuming conversation, because it will focus on the work done by both the School and our College].

Patricia invited me to her place for Halloween. Her family doesn't make a big deal out of celebrating it, but she thought I might find it fun to help answer the door. It was fun! The trick or treaters came in all sorts of costumes - the best one was a teenager who put herself in a cardboard box that looked like a stove, with her head popping out at the top, complete with a kettle and chef's hat! The last tiny tot who came really late at 9.30pm was dressed in this velvet purple dragon outfit that was too cute - and he was so blur. Too young I think; all he said was "Candy?" & "Bye!" Well, I guess he's focused...

I got up the next morning rather tired, but pulled myself together and headed to church. I should have gone earlier than 10.30am - by the time I got there, many of the home baked goods and hand knitted/woven stuff were gone!!! Still, I managed to pick up a few bargains. Caught up with Manny and Genny, and we went down to the Fellowship Hall to wait on tables for the Yuletide Fair lunch crowd.

I learnt that I lack the right competencies to wait on tables. I was filled with great anxiety trying to remember the orders (we didn't have paper to take down orders). Found it hard to keep an eye on 5 tables all at the same time - after a while, I forgot who had dessert already and who didn't. But I could reset the tables quite well ;-) Haha, it was all good fun, running to and fro the church kitchen (it's big and airy - I half wished I was in the kitchen instead) to the tables with food, drink and dishes. Wore this really obiang apron, but since everyone else did too, it didn't feel too bad ;-)

So today, I'm only operating at half speed. It's been quite a week - and with the much colder weather, I'm all ready to hibernate... Hmm, maybe I should go get a new set of PJs...
